What is Sitzmarks?

The SITZMARKS® is a gelatin capsule that you will swallow with a large glass of water. The capsule, which contains 24 radiopaque rings, will then pass naturally through the digestive tract, where it will dissolve and the rings will be released.

How do I prepare for a sitz marker?

You will not be able to take a laxative during the days you are doing the test. You should also not take any laxatives for two days before this exam. There should be no bowel preparation/colon cleansing before this exam. You can take a fiber supplement product containing psyllium such as Metamucil or Benefiber.

How do you speed up a slow transit colon?

If your transit time is a concern, there are some steps you can take to speed things up.

  1. Exercise for 30 minutes a day. Food and digested material is moved through the body by a series of muscle contractions.
  2. Eat more fiber.
  3. Eat yogurt.
  4. Eat less meat.
  5. Drink more water.
