How long does it take to become a foster parent in NY?

What are the rules to be a foster parent?

It is the policy of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) that you do not post any pictures of a child in care online. It is also important to never reveal personal information about your child in care on the internet. Doing so jeopardizes his safety and violates his right to privacy.
Do you have to have a spare bedroom to foster?
Most fostering services require you to have a spare bedroom, to ensure the child you foster has the privacy and space they require. The exception is babies who can usually share a foster carer’s bedroom up to a certain age (usually around 12-18 months).
Can I foster babies only?
Most Agencies don’t take applications from people who only want to foster babies. This is because Local Authorities, who place the children with Agencies, are usually able to find placements in-house, therefore foster carers with Independent (also known as Private) Fostering Agencies rarely get offered baby placements.

How long is the PS-Mapp course?
The PS-MAPP class is a 10 week course. Each class meets for approximately 3 hours and the course covers topics that will help prepare you to decide if your family should foster, what ages are right for your family, and how to care for children once they are placed in your home.
What does CMDP cover in Arizona?
CMDP also pays for health care services for Arizona’s children in foster care placed in and outside of the state of Arizona. CMDP cares for children and youth in out-of-home placement from birth to 18 years, and up to age 21 in some instances.
