How long can you use a reed?
A good quality reed will last approximately six months. If the fragrance is no longer as strong as it once was, try flipping the reeds. Over time, the reeds will become saturated and can get clogged with dust. When this happens, it is time to replace the reeds.
How do you put a reed back into a case?
Never touch the tip of the reed. After you’ve put the ligature on your mouthpiece (see above), use your thumbs to adjust reed placement on the mouthpiece. You can move the reed back and forth (and up and down) by using your thumbs until you are satisfied with the placement, then tighten the ligature to secure it.
How often should I change reeds?
every 2-4 weeks
A good rule of thumb is you should replace your reed every 2-4 weeks, no matter how often you’re playing your instrument. You may want to replace your reeds more frequently if you’re practicing several hours each day. Some reeds also may not last as long as others, every reed plays slightly differently.
Where do you put the reed diffuser?
Motion in the room and general movement in the air will help circulate the scent and throw the fragrance, so it’s best to place it in a high traffic area that will help move the scent around. Avoid placing it near air conditioning units or near a door that leads outside where the fragrance will be lost.
What humidity should reeds be at?
In order to keep reeds from warping they should be stored against a hard, flat surface with light but even pressure and at a relative humidity between 60% and 80%.
How do you keep reeds moist?
Fill a plastic jar with warm water and soak the reeds in the jar for 2 hours. Put the reeds back in their plastic covers. Dump the water out of the jar, but leave just a little bit at the bottom to keep in some moisture.
