Sovtek is a brand of vacuum tube owned by Mike Matthews’s New Sensor Corporation and manufactured in Saratov, Russia. They are often used in guitar amplification and include versions of the popular 12AX7, EL84, EL34, and 6L6.

What is the MIG 50 based on?
The MIG 50 is based on the Russian-made Sovtek MIG Amp Series that Electro Harmonix produced over 20 years ago. These were essentially a remake of an old Fender Bassman/Marshall Plexi circuit. These new reissue non-Master Volume 50-Watt heads could be a lot of fun – and hopefully cheap too!

The Groove Tubes GE 6L6 clone is a unique design that sounds great and reminds me of the vintage Sylvania 6L6GCs, but they aren’t particularly reliable. The Sovtek 5881 isn’t really a 5881 or a 6L6, but it’s still a great tube in its own right. It sounds good in many 6L6-based amps and is just about impossible to kill.
