Can you use Magnum primers in standard loads?
I pretty much exclusively use magnum primers. You’ll be fine as long as you start new load development and start on the lower side.
Are match grade primers worth it?
Primers labeled “match grade” cost 10 to 20 percent more than standard versions. Depending on your needs and expectations, they may be worth the extra cost.
What are large magnum primers used for?
Essentially a magnum primer burns with more intensity than a standard LR primer. They are intended for use in a larger case burning more powder (generally known as magnum cartridges, but not always). If you use a standard LR primer in a magnum case you MAY get inconstant ignition of the powder.
What’s the difference between regular primers and match primers?
With federals there’s no difference in specification between the 210/210m and 215/215M. The match primers supposedly have the compound wiped by their more experienced primer makers and go through an extra QC inspection which theoretically should mean they’re more consistent.
Is it OK to use magnum primers in 9mm?
I had a tray of SP Magnum primers mixed in with regular and loaded a whole bunch of 9mm rounds just like normal. I fired a couple rounds with the mag primers and didn’t notice any issues in pressure or even loss of accuracy.
