What Is The Salary Of A Senator

A United States Senator earns an annual salary of $174,000. However, it’s worth noting that the President pro tempore of the Senate, the Majority Party Leader and the Minority Party Leader in the Senate receive a  salary of $193,400 each per annum. Furthermore, the Senate Speaker is the highest paid member of the Senate making $223,500 a year. Nevertheless, Senators are entitled to retirement and health benefits just like those enjoyed by federal employees. Under their retirement benefits scheme they contribute 1.3% of their salaries to their scheme. However, Senators do not receive their retirement benefits until they are 50 years old and have also served in Congress for 20 years.
