What Is The Salary Of A Representative

United States House of Representatives members make $174,000 a year. However, the Majority Party Leader, the Minority Party Leader and the President pro tempore of the Senate earn $193,400 per year while the Speaker makes slightly more taking home $223,500 per annum. Like their counterparts in the Senate, representatives are covered under a health and retirement benefits scheme similar to that of federal employees. Under this scheme, they are required to contribute 1.3% of their salaries and are only eligible for their benefits upon their 50th birthdays. Moreover, members should also have served the people for 20 years to receive their retirement benefits.
