Vic De Zen is a Canadian entrepreneur and a self-made millionaire. He is the founder of Royal Group Technologies, which is one of the largest plastics and building supplies maker in Canada. Today, Zen is one of the most financially successful people in Canada, with an estimated net worth of $998 million. He is currently ranked among the top 100 wealthiest Canadians. Zen established the group as Royal Plastics Group in 1970, and it quickly grew to become one of the leading plastic makers in the country, specializing in window profiles, PVC pipes and other plastic products.
The group operates a large PVC recycling facility and a chemical plant in Bradford, Ontario. It diversified into other areas such as metals with its Baron Metal subsidiary, and lawn furniture. In 1994, Zen took the company public, and the stock quickly increased. Just like many other companies, Royal Group Technologies has at some point been plagued by financial losses and scandals. In 2004, forensic auditors found a suspicious land deal in which Zen and a few other executives had bought land and then resold it to the company. Zen was fired as Chairman as a result of this particular scandal.
Despite all that, Zen has been acknowledged for his entrepreneurial spirit. In the year 1995, Zen was named Canadian Entrepreneur of the Year. In the year 2002, he received the Order of Canada. This self-made millionaire is married to Angelina Zen. They both moved to Toronto on 2nd November, 1962.
