Tsai Eng Meng is a businessman of Taiwanese origin who has an estimated net worth of $10 billion. He is the richest person in Taiwan mainly due to his position as the Chairman & CEO of Want Want, a food producer. The company was actually founded by his father in 1962.
But over the years the company has made a steady upward progress and it has now developed into one of the largest producers of Chinese-style snacks in Asia.
Want Want China Holdings which produces more snacks like rice crackers has been listed on China Stock Exchange. The company has forayed into beverages as well and it has achieved reasonably good sales which have helped to increase his net worth.
There has been media reports which suggest that he has plans of investing into media too. Presently he has investments in financial services through Waterland and Union Insurance and in hotels via San Want chain.
Tsai Eng-Meng has shown great interests in Taiwanese Media but he has been widely criticized for his political views which are seen to be pro-China. But this is hardly a surprise as Want Want Holdings operates more than 100 manufacturing units in mainland China and only 2 in Taiwan.
The company has more than 60,000 employees in its roll. In 2008, a subsidiary of the company, Want Want China Holdings Limited, was listed on the stock exchange in Hong Kong.
