Famous for his lyrics and work as an author, Tim Rice was born in Buckinghamshire, England. He went to school at Aldwickbury  School, St. Albans School and Lancing College. After he finished school, he moved to France and studied for a year at Sorbonne University. This led to a position at EMI Records within the management department. Afterward, he switched to working for a private company and worked as an assistant producer. Some of his most successful collaborations were with companies like Disney and composers like Andrew Llloyd Webber. He was inducted into the Songwriter's Hall of Fame and was received the award called Disney Legend.

As a lyricist, he has worked on musicals like “Chess” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”. With Disney, he wrote the songs for “The Lion King”, “Beauty and the Beast” and “Aladdin”. His work in the music industry led to a knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II. He has been recognized for his work with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Other awards include the Golden Globe and the Grammy. In 1998, he released his autobiography and has since started working on a sequel. In his personal life, Tim Rice married Jane McIntosh in 1974. By the 1980s, the marriage ended due to an affair with Elaine Page.Together, the couple had two children before the end of their marriage.

An avid football and cricket fan, Rice runs his own cricket club. He is a supporter of the Sunderland football club. In politics, he was a former supporter of the Conservative part. Tim Rice also receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Sunderland. In matters of religion, Rice does not particularly identify as Christian, but is not actually against Christianity. Despite his lack of belief, he has produced songs for biblical musicals and stories.
