The entrepreneur is also the proud recipient of an honorary doctorate of humane letters from the University of Illinois. Suze had humble beginnings as a child. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1951 to a Jewish family.
Her father brought food on the table working at a chicken factory and her mother did her bit by working as a secretary for a rabbi. Over the years, Suze has worked many jobs. Upon finishing school, Suze earned her pocket money working as a waitress.
She filled the position of a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch early in her career. Later in 1983, Suze’s expertise landed her the role of vice-president of investments in Prudential Bache Securities. Not content working under someone’s wings, she established her own company Suze Orman Financial Group in 1987.
After earning her reputation as a shrewd advisor, Suze’s The Suze Orman Show was given the green lights by the producers of CNBC in 2002. As years passed by, she grew from strength to strength and awards came knocking. She received a Grace Award for Outstanding Program Host in 2006.
The advisor has also shared her knowledge, serving as the author to several books on Finance such as The 9 steps to Financial Freedom, The road to wealth, The Lessons of Life etc.
Orman spends time regularly in California and Florida and is known to be lesbian. She made her sexual orientation known to the world in February 2007. Orman is also vocal in her support for the Democrats and regularly donates money to their campaigns.
