Steven Spielberg Net Worth: $3.4 Billion

Steven Spielberg is an American screenwriter, director and a producer. He has an estimated net worth of $3.4billion, which makes him one of the most successful people in the United States. He is also considered to be one of the most influential and popular filmmakers in the history of cinema. His name is synonymous with film as his career in the movie industry has lasted for more than four decades.

Spielberg was born on 18th December 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio to a Jewish family. His mother Leah Adherer was a pianist, while his father Arnold Spielberg was an electrical engineer in the computer development sector. Spielberg loved film since he was a little boy, and at the age of 13, he had won an award for his 40 minutes film, “Escape to Nowhere”. He got an opportunity at a local cinema at the age of sixteen and made his first feature length film,” Firelight”. Unfortunately his parents divorced and with his father they moved to California where he graduated from Saratoga High School. He anticipated joining University of Southern California School of Theatre, Film and Television, but his application was rejected thrice. Instead, he attended California State University Long Beach.

Spielberg’s actually career started when he became an unpaid, 7-day-a-week intern and guest of the editing department. It was during that time that he directed a short film known as “Amblin”, which caught the eye of the vice president of the production. He was drafted soon after, making him the youngest director by then, to sign a long term contract. Following the opportunity that presented itself, Spielberg dropped out of college. After rising to fame, he was awarded with an honorary degree by USC in 1994. Two years later, he became a trustee of the California State University, Long Beach.

Spielberg has also been an avid philanthropist for many years. In 1991, Spielberg co-established Starbright with Randy Aduana. This is a foundation that is dedicated to enhancing the lives of sick children through technology-based programs focusing on education and entertainment. In the year 2002, the foundation merged with the Starlight Foundation to form the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Spielberg has also been a supporter of U.S Democratic Party candidates, and has made donations of over $800,000 to the party and its nominees. He and the former U.S. President, Bill Clinton, have been good friends. The two worked together for the U.S.A Millennium celebrations.

During his career, Spielberg has won many awards. He has won a total of 3 Academy awards, and has been nominated for 7 Academy Awards. In the year 1987, this famous film director was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award basically for his work as a creative producer. In 1995, Spielberg was awarded with the AFI Life Achievement Award. Three years later, he received the Federal Cross of Merit award, which was presented by President Roman Herzg of Germany. Spielberg was first married to Amy Irving (1985-1989), with whom he had one child (Max Samuel). The 67-year old billionaire is currently married to Kate Capshow.
