Stefano Pessina Net Worth : $10 Billion
Stefano Pessina is a 72 year old Italian and the Executive Chairman of the pharmaceutical and healthcare giant Alliance Boots PLC. He has a net worth of $10 billion and is the 4th wealthiest individual in Italy. He also holds the largest stakes in Walgreens Co. the largest chain of pharmacies in the United States. Additionally, he sits on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Goods Forum.
Though not a pharmacist (he is a nuclear engineer), Pessina took over his family’s small pharmaceuticals wholesale store operating in Naples, Italy, and turned it into the multi-million dollar Alliance Boots PLC through a series of well calculated mergers. He began by expanding Alleanza Farmaceutica’s area of coverage to include several European countries (Portugal, Greece, Spain and France) by buying smaller pharmaceutical businesses in these countries.
At this point the company was known as Alliance Santè. He then merged this franchise with UniChem (a UK based company) before finally merging with another UK firm: Boots Group to form what is currently known as Alliance Boots PLC.
Despite the fact that looking for great deals is Pessina’s fulltime job, he makes time to do some of his favorite things which include collecting 13th to 17th century Italian paintings and 16th to 17th century Flemish. He also owns an under-utilized yacht and enjoys swimming and tennis.
There isn’t much to be said about Stefano’s personal life. He is a very private man. However, he is married to Barbara Pessina and although they are separated and have two grown up children they have never divorced. He currently lives with his business partner and fellow Alliance Boots board member Ornella Barra. All the same, her position on the Board of Directors has brought a lot of heat to Stefano due to their relationship. They reside in Monaco.
