Stefan Persson, the Swedish business magnate, is the 12th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of $34 billion. He is a major shareholder and chairman of the fashion company, Hennes & Mauritz (popular as H&M), since 1979.
The company was started by his father way back in 1947 and Stefan was the CEO till 1998. The retail chain has continued with its international expansion and his stock in the company has grown by more than 40% over the years. The chain has now more than 2600 stores across the world (45 countries) and it opened its first store in Malaysia in 2012.
Persson is the richest person in Sweden and he loves to impress people with his immense wealth. This has become more evident through his high profile investments in the real estate sector. In 2009 he acquired the English village, Linkenholt in Hampshire and continued to buy more English countryside to add to his ever-expanding portfolio.
Now he also owns the Savernake Estate in Wiltshire which spread across 8.700 acres of land. As per reports he has also purchased an entire block in Paris for a whopping $219 million and he is also the landlord to Burberry & Bally.
Stefan Persson was born in Stockholm and he attended the University of Stockholm. He still resides here with his wife and three children. Stefan loves playing golf and downhill skiing during his spare time. He is the founder of the Mentor Foundation which is basically a non-profit organization that helps to eradicate the problem of substance abuse among the people. In 2008 Stefan resigned as the CEO of the company but continues to be its Chairman. His son Karl-Johan is now the CEO of the company who owns a fair amount of shares of the company himself.
