Sergey Brin Net Worth : $31.8 Billion

Sergey Mikhaylovich Brin is an American internet entrepreneur and computer scientist, who was born in August 21, 1973, in Moscow Russia. He is the co-founder of Google, which is the most popular and successful search engine in the world. In its annual issue, Forbes Magazine listed him as the 19th  richest person in the world with a net worth of $31.8 billion as of March 2014.

Awards and Recognition

Along with Larry Page, Brin was named among the top 100 innovators in the world below 35 years of age. This recognition was made by the MIT Technology Review TR100 in 2002. A year later, both Brin and his founding partner were awarded an honorary MBA from IE Business School for personifying the entrepreneurial spirit and providing momentum to the conception of new businesses.

The duo was granted the Academy of Achievement’s Golden Plate award in 2004. In 2005, Brin became an inductee of the National Academy of Engineering, which is considered to be one of the highest professional distinctions awarded to an engineer. Later that year, Brin and Page were ranked fifth in the list of the most powerful people in the world by Forbes Magazine.

Sergey Brin co-founded Google, the most popular search engine with Larry Page, a long-time friend he met at Stanford University. The name ‘Google’ was derived from “Googol”, which is a mathematical term with 1 followed by 100 zeros – a name symbolizing the infinite possibility of information.

Google was initially launched in 1998 after Brin and Page raised $1 million from their families, friends and other investors. Google has its headquarters in the heart of California’s Silicon Valley. 

Brin became a billionaire in August 2004, after this company held its first initial public offering. In 2006, Google bought YouTube, the most popular video-sharing website in 2006. Brin shares Google’s everyday responsibilities with Larry Page.

Other Interests

Besides his great involvement in Google, Brin has interest in various other projects. In 2008, Brin invested about $4.5 million in the Space Adventures, a space tourism company based in Virginia. Currently, he is involved in a project that is aimed at solving the world’s energy and climate problems.

Together with Page, Brin created Google’s philanthropic arm Google.org that invests in the alternative energy industry in a bid to find wider sources of renewable energy. He also co-owns a Domier Alpha Jet and a customized Boeing 767-200 with Page.

Personal Life

Brin is currently separated from his wife Anne Wojcicki, whom he married in May 2007. The two have a son and a daughter born in 2008 and 2011 respectively. In August 2013, an announcement was made stating that Brin and Wojcicki were living separately. The two, however, still run The Brin Wojcicki Foundation.
