The 40th president of the USA, Ronald Reagan was born on 6th Feb. 1911, to John and Nelle Reagan in Tampico, Illinois. He was popularly known as ‘the Gipper’ thanks to the role he played in the movie, ‘Knute Rockne, All American’. Mr. Reagan had his schooling in nearby Dixon and later went on to attend Eureka College.
Ronald loved acting and he appeared in numerous school plays, he also played on the football team. In 1937, he won himself a Hollywood contract, and during the next two decades he appeared in 53 films. Mr. Reagan got married twice, first to actress Jane Wyman, and later to Nancy Davis who was also an actress. Ronald did not have much of an inheritance.
However, as both his wives were actresses, they had their own money. Ronald was an excellent speaker; he was highly paid as a GE spokesman, also much of his earning came from his autobiography. ‘The Gipper” had been keenly interested in real estate throughout his life, his possessions includes a 688-acre property near Santa Barbara. Reagan was always popular in every sphere and amongst all circles of his life. He was the president of the Screen Actors Guild, in 1966 when he contended for the Governorship of California; he won the election by a record margin of 1 million votes and was reelected in 1970. On Jan.20, 1981, ‘the Gipper’ took office as the President the USA. Mr. Ronald Reagan was a witty politician and his tenure as President of the country saw the restoration of USA’s prosperity and his dream of maintaining peace and strength together seemed to be a possibility.
