By Abhinandan Lawati

We know America as the land of opportunities. Hollywood movies have also made it clear that the country is truly blessed.  America is arguably one of the richest countries in the world and most of its citizens enjoy benefits which seem alien to the rest of the world.

According to a report from 24/7 Wall St, which compiled statistics from the U.S Bureau of Labor and the US Census Bureau’s 2012 American Community Survey, Maryland has been disclosed and identified as the richest state in the country. In the report, Maryland fared better than the other 49 states. Certain factors such as household income, unemployment data, poverty, and health insurance were contemplated to rank the states. The list compiled below ranks states from 1 to 10 based on the median of the aforementioned factors.

The report also stated that the household income of the Natives of Maryland were miles ahead of the national median- $20,000 higher to be exact! This means that the citizens of Maryland earned 2 times more than the natives of the poorest state, Mississippi. Most of the workers in Maryland were employed in high paying jobs, with several leading the charge in professional scientific and management positions. The addition of jobs nationwide did little to increase the median incomes of most states. Almost all of the profits went into the pockets of the elite billionaires with the poor continually struggling to increase their revenues.

The reports also revealed that the incomes among the families in Maryland were uniform in nature with only 10.3 percent believed to be under the poverty line. The people in Old Line State definitely seem to be well off.
