The 64 -year-old fund manager has been described by Bloomberg Markets as one of the most influential people. Born in New York, Ray Dalio began investing at an early age. His first major investment was in Northeast Airlines where his $300 investment grew threefold.
He joined Long Island University where he received a BA and later went to Harvard Business School where he graduated with an MBA. After a stint at The New York Stock Exchange and a couple of private companies, he founded Bridgewater Associates in 1975, which was an investment management firm.
It currently deals with institutional clients and is based in Westport, Connecticut. The company recently became one of the world’s largest hedge fund with over $100 billion in managed assets. He is known for having predicted the global economic meltdown in 2007 and a year later, he published an essay describing his idea for the crisis.
Not one to keep knowledge for himself, he has been releasing investment secrets via YouTube to reach the rest of the world. Of Italian descent, the American guru has been likened to Steve Jobs in the world of hedge funds and his bank statement is proof of that. He is worth $14.4 billion.
