Norberto Odebrecht is a Brazilian businessman, engineer and the founder of the Odebrecht Foundation. He was born on October 9, 1920 in Recife, Brazil, and he is the grandson of a renowned Brazilian, who was a German geodetical engineer and cartographer. Norberto attended the Polytechnic School of Bahia and in the year 1944, he established his own construction company, which later led to the creation of the Odebrecht Group in Salvador da Bahia.

Norberto founded the Odebrecht Company with the aim of providing company members the benefits that weren’t provided by the Brazilian social security system. Today, his business has become a multinational corporation that has more than 168,000 employees in more than 60 countries around the world. In 1965, Norberto founded the Odebrecht Foundation, which is currently focused on the subsistence of 4 capitals in communities of any socioeconomic profile i.e. productive capital, environmental capital, social capital and human capital.
In the year 1996, the Odebrecht Foundation was awarded with the Pacem in Terris (which means Peace on Earth) Award, Norberto is considered one of the wealthiest and influential people in Brazil. His current net worth is estimated to be $4.51 billion, which makes him the 9th richest person in the country.
