Net Worth: $1.3 Billion (As at April 2014)
Nicholas Woodman, also popularly known as the “mad billionaire’ is an American businessman, who currently has an estimated net worth of $1.3 billion. His massive wealth derives from GoPro, a wearable video camera company that he established in 2002.
This 36-year old self-made billionaire debuted on the Billionaires list in 2013, and is one of the richest people in the world under the age of 40. Those close to Woodman describe him as “a bit obsessive” guy, who dedicates most of his time and energy in the things that he believes in.
At some point, he could stay up late (spending 18 hours a day) in his bedroom working. His first video camera, which was a 35-millimeter waterproof film version, was released in 2004. Its sales were great as it was sold everywhere from home shopping network, QVC to surf shops.
Today, the video camera shoots video in cinema-quality HD, enabling anyone from amateur snowboarders to professional surfers to capture all their captivating adventures.
Woodman proudly maintains that his company has been a profitable business since its inception. Towards the end of 2012, Foxconn, which is a Taiwan-based electronics company, made an investment in GoPro worth $200 million, which accounts for an 8.88% stake.
Woodman serves as the Chief Executive Officer of GoPro, and is planning to take the company public in 2014. He is married to Jill R. Scully, with whom he has 2 children. They reside in Woodside California.
