Born of a military father, Nelly’s parents separated when he was just 7. He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Nelly’s career began in 1993 when he was still a teenager. By then, he was performing with a rap group called the Lunatics. In 1996, he was signed by Universal Records in what was his first recording contract. In 2000, Nelly made his debut with a first album known as County Grammar. This album featured the hit song County Grammar, which took to the Top Ten charts.
