Long gone are the days when the main purpose of owning a boat was to take it out on the ocean and enjoy the peace and quiet it offers. Today it is a matter of prestige and social status which means everything is bigger, more luxurious and sometimes even extravagantly expensive. Rich people have no problems digging deep into their pockets to show off their overwhelming wealth to the rest of the world. In that respect, here’s a list of 10 most expensive privately owned yachts.
The Rising Sun $200M
David Geffen’s $200M yacht shows just how lucrative the film industry can get for successful producers. It’s not just a regular yacht; it’s a mobile home that consists of everything you could ever want while at sea.
Seven Seas $200M
Seven Seas is another yacht privately held by a very successful filmmaker, Steven Spielberg. It is said that he himself designed this floating home, which would explain the 15 ft. pool glass used as a movie screen.
Lady Moura $210M
You were probably expecting a Saudi name somewhere on this list and here it is. This $210M private yacht is in the ownership of Nasser Al-Rashid, a multi-billionaire from Saudi Arabia.
Al Mirqab $250M
Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani is the Prime Minister of Qatar, the world’s richest country, and the proud owner of a yacht that has a helipad, a swimming pool and a cinema among other things.
This exclusive yacht is owned by Alisher Usmanov, a Russian business magnate. Like the other yachts mentioned on this list, it also has a helipad and can accommodate quite a large number of guests and crew.
Al Said $300M
When you’re a Sultan like Qaboos Bin Said Al Said of Oman, you have no problems naming your expensive yacht after none other than yourself.
Superyacht A $323M
Russia is the home to many of the world’s billionaires who are famous for owning super-luxurious yachts. One of them is Andrey Melnichenko and he made sure his uniquely designed yacht is well noticed wherever it docks.
Back in its day, this yacht held the title as the largest in its category (525 ft.). It belongs to the Prime Minister of UAE who wanted nothing but the best for him and his family, which is why it is also called “the floating city”. There’s nothing a person needs that isn’t on this yacht.
Roman Abramovich takes his privacy seriously, which is why his yacht can actually prevent people from taking its photos. That and many other advanced features justify the price of $800M.
History Supreme $4.8B
This super-exclusive yacht is worth almost $5 billion and is owned by an anonymous businessman. The fact that 100 tons of gold was used in its production speaks for itself.
The listed prices may seem absurd to regular folks, but to some of the richest people on the planet it’s equivalent to us buying a Porsche. It may be excessive and unessential but we have to admit it would be cool to own such a majestic vehicle.
