Mitt Romney is an American businessman and politician. He gained world-wide recognition when he vied for the presidency of the United States in the 2012 election. Prior to this, Romney served as the Governor of Massachusetts from the year 2003 to 2007. He unfortunately lost the presidential vote to Barrack Obama. His net worth of $250 million makes him one of the wealthiest politicians in the US, and by far the wealthiest 2012 Presidential Candidate in U.S history.
Romney started his career as a consultant with Bain & Company, which is a Boston-Based company. He left the company after a while to establish an offshoot private equity firm, Bain Capital, which eventually made an incredible fortune through leveraged buyouts. Romney served as the President and Managing Partner of the company. He was also referred to as the Chief Executive Officer or Managing Director of the Company.
Romney has won many awards and has also been honored in many ways. In 1999, the University of Utah awarded him with an honorary doctorate in business. In 2002, Bentley College awarded him with an honorary doctorate in law. In 2004, Suffolk University Law School awarded him with an honorary doctorate in public administration. In 2004, Hillsdale Collage awarded him with an honorary degree in public service. In 2012, Liberty University awarded him with an honorary degree in humanities. In 2002, People Magazine ranked him on its list of 50 Most Beautiful People.
The highest percentage of Romney’s wealth is held in blind trusts, some of it offshore. In 2012, there was an additional blind trust that exists in the name of his children, which is valued at $100 million. In 2010, he received about $22.1 million in income, a majority of which came from investments such as carried interests, capital gains and dividends. Romney is married to Ann Romney, with whom he has 5 children. The family has five residences: one in Belmont, another in Massachusetts, Wolfeboro, another in New Hampshire, San Diego, another in California, another in Park City, Utah, and lastly in Holladay, Utah.
