Mike Lazaridis is a Greek-Canadian businessman, investor and philanthropist. He has an estimated net worth of $949 million, which ranks him as one of the top 100 richest people in Canada. He is the Vice Chairman of BlackBerry, a company that manufactures the BlackBerry wireless handheld device. Lazaridis is renowned for being a passionate advocate for the power of basic science to transform and improve the world.
This self-made millionaire is also the founder of Quantum Valley Investments alongside Douglas Fregin. The company was founded on March 2013, and it provides intellectual and financial capital for the further commercialization and development of advancements in quantum information science. In the year 1999, Lazaridis established the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, whereby he serves as its Board Chair.
Previously, Lazaridis served as the Chancellor of the University of Waterloo. He is a receiver of an Officer of the Order of Canada, and was also made a member of the Order of Ontario.
