Facebook, the brain child of Zuckerberg
Facebook was Mark Zuckerberg’s brain child, hatched inside his dormitory in Harvard during his freshmen year (Ferbruary 4, 2004). His work was inspired by a student directory from a prep school from where Zuckerberg graduated in 2002. The school directory was called by insiders as ‘The Facebook,’ which users found to be an important part of student’s social experience by listing phone numbers, friends and class years.
In order to complete Facebook, Zuckerberg decided to drop out of Harvard on his second year and devoted his time on the project while moving to Palo Alto, California. And after that, as they say, the rest was history.
The road to success was not as easy as it seems, Zuckerberg actually faced several lawsuits with regards to building a social network, the Harvard Crimson. The case was filed by Harvard then-seniors Divya Narendra, Tyler Winklevoss and Cameron Winklevoss. Fortunately, the lawsuit was settled with an agreement of 1.2m in Facebook shares amounting to $300 Million of IPO on Facebook.
Another lawsuit was filed by Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, but the case was settled out of court and the details were never divulged in public. But, this much is true, as acknowledged by Facebook that Saverin is indeed amongst the company’s co-founder.
Another lawsuit was filed by Paul Ceglia who is claiming for 84% ownership of Facebook and other damages which became a sensational news story after the court has dismissed the lawsuit as ‘completely frivolous’. Fortunately for Zuckerberg, the case has remained closed and there were no out of court settlements made. In fact, Ceglia went to jail for tapping, fabricating and destroying evidence against Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg and wife, Priscilla Chan
Mark Zuckerberg got hitched on May 19, 2012 to college sweetheart Priscilla Chan. The ceremony took place in a very private and surprise gathering at the newlyweds’ Palo Alto home. Zuckerberg’s home in Palo Alto was purchased in 2011 for a whopping $7 million. Current murmurs from the grapevine have allege that Zuckerberg is on a real estate buying spree, snapping up four neighboring homes near his house for a grand sum of $30 million.
Mrs. Zuckerberg or Cilia as she is fondly called by friends, just graduated from med school at the University of California in San Francisco, just weeks before the marriage. She is born in Massachusetts from Chinese parents. She is clearly a brainiac, having graduated as class valedictorian in High School and went on to pursue Biology in Harvard where she met her love interest, Mark Zuckerberg.
It’s also interesting to know that Mark is a pet-lover—specifically, a dog lover. He and his wife own a Hungarian sheepdog that they have named as Beast.
