Ella Maria Lani Yelich-O’Connor who is popularly known by her stage name Lorde is worth $2 million. The Kiwi girl is worth a lot considering the fact that she is just 17 years old. Lorde was born is Devonport, Auckland. At the tender age of 13, Lorde was signed by the global music label Universal, making her one of the youngest artists to sign for it.
Her name is an interesting alteration of the word Lord with an added ‘e’ at its end so that it sounds more feminine. The first release from her that grabbed attention was her EP titled The Love Club, which was released in 2012 and was later re-released on CD in 2013. In New Zealand the single “Royals” debuted at number one on New Zealand Top 40 chart, making her a big success and celebrity.
The single also topped in the United States at the Billboard Alternative Songs chart and the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well, thereby cementing her global stardom in a very small time. This was a very rare achievement because of her young age. She followed the success of her first single with her second single “Tennis Court” which topped the New Zealand charts once again.
Time magazine went on to list her among ‘The 16 Most Influential Teens of 2013’. This was hot on the heels of the grand success that her first studio album Pure Heroine had achieved. While “Royals” won her the nomination to three Grammy Awards, Pure Heroine had been nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album.
She has already won the Silver Scroll Award for best single and the Grammy nominations only emphasise her growing image as a global superstar. She might be just 17, but she has done what many teens can’t even dream of. Her millionaire status would soon change to multi-millionaire if her success is anything to go by.
