Emmanuele Saputo (or Lino Saputo) is a Canadian entrepreneur and the 6th richest person in the country, with an estimated net worth of $5 billion. He is the Chairman of Saputo, Inc, a Canadian-based cheese maker that he founded. He became the President and Chairman of the Board of the company in 1969 and when the company went public in 1998, he was named the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board.

Saputo was born in 1934 in Montelepre, Sicily, Italy. His father, Giuseppe Saputo, was a cheese maker, and he influenced young “Lino” into wanting a career in cheese making. After Lino completed his high school education in 1952, the Saputo family relocated to Montreal, Quebec. On March 2004, Saputo’s son named Lino Saputo Jr. was appointed to be the Chief Executive Officer and President of Saputo, Inc. Saputo senior continues to act as Saputo, Inc’s Chairman of the Board.
Lino Saputo is also an active philanthropist and he supports numerous causes. He has not only offered support to a number of hospitals in Montreal, but he has also contributed generously to various worthy projects in the city. On July 2006, he contributed about C$7.5 million towards the building of Montreal Impact’s soccer stadium at Olympic Park.
