Born in Atlanta Georgia on the 17th day of January, 1971 as Jonathan Mortimer Smith, Lil Jon is an energetic and loud mouthed American rapper, producer, actor and businessman with a net worth estimated to be $28 million. Often adorned with a festooned pimp goblet, Lil Jon is the charismatic spearhead of the Dirty South, a movement that originated from Atlanta around the turn of the century.
Lil Jon’s success can largely be attributed to his hard work. He went to school in Atlanta’s Frederick Douglas High School, from where he graduated and later went on to become a night club DJ for years in Atlanta. He later on became a DJ for So So Def Recordings from 1993 to 2000; a period in which he formed a rap group known as Lil John & The East Side Boyz. Lil Jon and his group went on to release numerous urban hit singles.
The group’s potential wasn’t unnoticed as they were signed by Mirror Image Records, an Atlanta-based label and in 1997, they released their first album known as Get Crunk, Who U Wit: Da Album.
Primarily, Lil Jon’s wealth comes from music production. He united with Ying Yang Twins and recorded a hit single called Get Low, which made the Top Ten charts on Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, he has recorded hit songs for Usher (What U Gon Do) and Ludacris (Lovers & Friends) that were very successful. Lil Jon’s latest album is known as Crunk Rock.
As a businessman, Lil Jon runs a company that produces a beverage called Crunk, and another company, Little Jonathan Wines that produces Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
