Known to the world as the Kardashian clan’s matriarch, Kris Jenner has managed to capitalize on her family’s reality show success. With a net worth of $30 million, she has certainly made it. She was born Kristen Mary Houghton to Mary Jo Shannon and Robert Houghton. Jenner and her sister were raised by their mother after their parents divorced when she was seven. She went to Clairemont High School and later worked as an air stewardess for a while.
She married lawyer Robert Kardashian in 1978.They had three daughters: Kourtney, Kim and Khloe as well as a son Rob. They later divorced in 1991 but had a cordial relationship until Robert’s death from cancer in 2003. Jenner married her second husband, Bruce Jenner who was a former Olympian in 1991. They had two daughters: Kendall and Kylie. Kris also has four stepchildren: Brandon, Brody, Burton and Casey Jenner through Bruce. The couple separated in 2013. Kris has three grandchildren.
Robert Kardashian’s high profile defence of O.J Simpson caused friction between Kris and Robert since the Kardashians were close friends of O.J and Nicole Brown Simpson. The fact that Robert was representing O.J who was accused of murdering Nicole put a strain on their relationship as Nicole and Kris were best friends before her death. This friendship saw Kris name her daughter Kendall Nicole after her best friend. The trial also forced the Kardashians to move since the situation had become risky for all parties.
Referred to as a ‘momager’ Kris is the mother and manager for all her family members. Her family burst into the limelight when the reality television show Keeping Up With the Kardashians first aired in 2007. The show delves into the personal and professional lives of all members of the Kardashian family. The show has been such a success that several spin-offs such as Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York and Khloe and Lamar have been produced.
Apart from managing, Kris is also a writer. She released her autobiography Kris Jenner…and all things Kardashian in 2011 in which she revealed her infidelity during her marriage to Robert as well as providing an inside perspective to her role as the matriarch of the Kardashians. She has hosted her own daytime talk show Kris, which had a six week trial run but failed to secure an extension. Despite this setback, she is still going strong with a rapidly expanding media empire and publicity.
