Kenneth “Ken” Fisher is an American investment analyst and writer. He serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fisher Investments, a money management firm he founded in 1979. The investment company manages over $50 billion in assets, and has offices in Washington, Camas, California, San Mateo and Woodside. Today, Fisher’s net worth is estimated to be $2.3 billion, which makes him one of the wealthiest people in the United States.
Fisher was born on 29th November, 1950 in San Francisco, California. He attended Humboldt State University to study forestry. He however graduated with a degree in economics in the year 1972 from the same institution. After working for his father, who was a renowned author and money manager, he established his own company, Fisher Investments. In 2007, he and Thomas Grüner established an investment company known as Grüner Fisher Investments.
In 2009, Fisher was awarded with the inaugural Tiburon CEO Award for Challenging Conventional Wisdom. In 2011, the Investment Advisor Magazine ranked him among the “Top 25 Most Influential Figures” in the financial industry. Fisher is also an avid writer, and he writes a monthly column in Forbes Magazine. He also contributes to various other financial and news magazines. He has written 10 investment books, and has written research papers in the behavioral finance field. As of 2009, he had authored more than 18 research papers on diverse topics, ranking from behavior finance to consumer confidence to stock markets.
In the 3rd quarter of 2013, he sold and reduced his stakes in various corporations. He reduced his position with telecom giants by at least 95 per cent. He also reduced his positions in Mobile Ltd (a China-based company), Videophone Group PLC, Verizon Communications Inc., and AT&T Inc. This 64-year old billionaire is married with three children.
