John Risley is a Canadian entrepreneur whose has ventured into communications, food supplements and fisheries sectors. He was born in 1948 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but never attended university. Instead, he choose a career in real estate and in 1976, he teamed up with his brother-in-law and established a lobster business in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Over the years, Risley has ventured extensively, earning himself an incredible fortune of $1.38 billion. He is currently listed as one of the top 100 richest people in Canada.
Risley has had a major stake in Clearwater Fine Foods, which is one of the largest international food fish businesses in Canada. He also has a major stake in Ocean Nutrition Canada, which is the world’s largest producer of Omega-3 fatty acids. Risley also has a stake in Columbus Communications, which is a Caribbean cable television and internet provider. In addition to that, Risley’s business also runs a small fleet of air craft.
In recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit, Risley was made an officer of the Order of Canada in the year 1998. The billionaire is in his sixties and is married with one daughter and one son. He has a home that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean, sitting on a 91-acre property. Risley also owns a barn with cows and horses.
