James Cameron Net Worth $900 Million
The whole world knows him for his amazing talent as a director. With big budget Hollywood blockbusters such as Avatar, Terminator, The Titanic and Rambo to his credit, James Francis Cameron has made his mark in the film world.
The 59 year old was born in Kapuskasing, Ontario to Shirley and Phillip Cameron. After college, he did several jobs while at the same time teaching himself about special effects in films. He later quit working as a truck driver and joined the movie industry. He produced his first film Xenogenesis in 1978 that had a ten minute script. He continued to learn film making techniques and started to make miniature models at Roger Corman Studios.
Cameron soon started getting jobs as an art director and later became the special effects director for Piranha II: The Spawning in 1981 where he was fired but still stayed on location. It was here that he suffered from food poisoning and a nightmare he experienced gave him the inspiration for The Terminator a film that launched his film career to greater heights.
His screenplay for The Terminator could not find any buyers as most of the companies he contacted were hesitant about committing their resources to an inexperienced director. Hemdale Pictures expressed its willingness for him to direct and Pacific Western Productions agreed to buy the screenplay for a dollar. With Arnold Schwarzenegger as the lead, the movie became a box-office success earning over ten times its budget. This marked the start of his highly successful career.
Cameron has won Academy Awards for his work in The Titanic and a Golden Globe for Avatar. Apart from science fiction, he has also produced several documentaries and has contributed to television shows such as Dark Angel. His contribution to underwater filming and underwater vehicle technology cannot go without mention. His efforts in environmental issues have seen a new species of Venezuelan frog, Pristimantis jamescameroni, named after him. The Canadian icon is currently worth an estimated $900 million.
