Ioan Niculae is a noted Romanian businessman who has an estimated net worth of $1.2 billion. According to Forbes magazine, he is the richest Romanian in the world. He is the owner of his country’s leading fertilizer and agricultural conglomerate, InterAgro Group. With the help of his company, Ioan manages close to 50,000 hectares of agricultural fields and he is also known to be the biggest cereal cultivator in Romania.
Ioan also owns around 170 hectares of vineyards which reaped the first harvest in 2008. It is estimated that from 2004 the amount of agricultural investments of the company has surpassed 100 million euros. He also had a few low points in his life including the time when he was accused of being an informer for the Communist Romania’s secret police. In 2013 Ioan was featured in the Forbes magazine and he was the 3rd Romanian to get this honor after Dinu Patriciu & Ion Tiriac.
Apart from his holding company, Ioan is also the owner of Astra Giurgiu, the football team, since 1996. He has also invested nearly $50 million in a co-generation plant which is part of his strategy to reduce the energy costs. His personal life is in a bit of doldrums as he has just filed for a divorce from his wife which would end his 31-year old marriage. The trial is still pending and he has three children from the marriage.
