He is a publisher, editor, actor, film producer and business mogul. Hugh was born in 1926 in Chicago, Illinois. As a young boy, he wrote for the U.S Army newspaper from 1944 to 1946.
In 1949, he graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Soon after completing college, he took up a job as a copywriter for Esquire. He did not dwell for long at the job. In 1953, he raised a modest capital from banks, and investors and launched playboy magazine.
For its first issue, Hugh featured America’s darling the voluptuous Marilyn Monroe, moving over 50,000 copies. Playboy magazine gained popularity throughout the years in America as well in selected countries where adult magazines were not prohibited.

Hugh Hefner is heavily involved in philanthropic activities. He helped organize funds for the restoration of the famous Hollywood sign in 1978 chipping in $29,000. He has shown interest in protection of animals by holding fundraising events for charities like Generation Rescue and the Much Love Animal Rescue. He amazingly has an endangered species of Marsh rabbit named after him due to his generosity .Hugh was also involved in politics raising money for the Democratic Party although recently he has remained independent.
Hefner as a young man married Mildred Williams in 1949 until the divorce in 1959. They had two children Christie and David Hefner. Throughout his time at the playboy mansion he was busy promoting his magazines and TV shows that 4 decades went by before he wed again. In 1989, Kimberley Conrad became the second wife of Hugh Hefner before they separated in 1998 eventually divorcing in 2010. He is currently married to Crystal Harris whom he wed in 2012.
