Huang Maoru is currently the wealthiest person in Belize with an estimated net worth of $1 billion. Forbes ranks him 187th in its issue of China Rich List, and the 1342nd richest person in the world. Maoru currently serves as the Chairman of Maoye International, which is one of the largest retailers in China, and the most popular departmental store in Shenzen. It has thirty-seven departmental stores in eighteen cities. The enterprise has been adding new stores in Nanjing and Shenyang. In 2011, the various stores brought in about $530 million, resulting in a profit of about $100 million. This was an 11% increase from the preceding year.
The company’s shares dropped in value as a result of concerns about Hong Kong’s fiscal stability in the fall of 2012. Despite the shortcomings, the company’s shares are rising back from their lows and it has managed to grow exponentially. The overall sales increased by over 50 per cent. Maoye International is headquartered in Shenzen, and it is situated across the Hong Kong boarder. It holds a majority stake in China-listed Bohai Logistics, and in the recent past it managed to acquire a minority stake in domestically listed retailer, Dashang. Maoru has been acting as the Chief Executive Officer of the company since its inception in 1996. His wife, Huang Jingzhang, is a co-owner of the company, and she served as the Director of the company until she stepped down in 2010.
