Known as the person who build Starbucks to what it is today, Howard Schultz grew up impoverished. Born on July 19, 1952, Schultz was raised in Brooklyn, New York. Throughout high school, he excelled in sports. After his school years, he went on to receive a scholarship for athletics from Northern Michigan University. Howard Schultz graduated in the 1970s and began to work with Xerox.

Before long, he realized that his work was not perfect, so Schultz started to work for a coffee company. This early experience led him to work with Seattle-based coffee producers in order to start the Starbucks Coffee Company. With his degree in communications, he was a natural fit for the role of director of marketing. 

Through his work, Schultz managed to build one of the world's most recognizable companies, Starbucks. Schultz became the chairman and CEO of Starbucks. He co-founded an investment group, Maveron, in 1998. Howard Schultz owned the Seattle Supersonics briefly and is the owner of Starbucks. Currently, he is ranked the 354th richest person in the United States and possesses a net worth of $1.5 billion.  By late 2013, he stopped down from his role on the board of Square and was earning a total compensation of $9,740,471 every year. Out of this amount, $1,190,000 is included as a base salary.
