Heidi Horten is an Austrian female billionaire, who derived an incredible fortune from her husband, Helmut Horten. Helmut was a highly successful retailer who founded the eponymous German department store chain. Heidi and Helmut met in 1960 in a hotel bar in Velden am Wörthersee. Despite their 32 year age difference, the two got married 6 years later in church. The two remained together until Helmut met his untimely death in 1987.
After the death of her husband, Heidi inherited an estimated $1 billion fortune and consequently became one of the top 10 wealthiest women in Austria. At some point, she was listed as the third richest female billionaire in the world.
