Hans Rausing, the Swedish businessman, has an estimated net worth of $12 billion. He made his fortune by co-inheriting Tetra Pak, the company which was founded by Ruben Rausing, his father. At present Tetra Pak is the largest food packaging company in the world. In 1954 he and and his brother, Gad, inherited the company and Hans was appointed the Managing Director while his brother assumed the position of Deputy Managing Director in Tetra Pak.
Hans moved to UK in 1982 to avoid the high taxes in Sweden but retained his post till 1985. He took over as the Chairman of the Board in 1985 but left Tetra Pak in 1993. In 1995 he sold his share to his brother for a reported sum of $7 billion. The company achieved huge success in 1970s and 80s and this success has been attributed to the leadership of the 2 brothers. They were responsible for transforming the family business into a global MNC.
Hans graduated from Lund University in 1948. He now resides on a 900 acres estate in Wadhurst which is in the British county, East Sussex. He invests in Ecolean which produces environmentally friendly packaged materials and also in Chumak which manufactures condiments. He and his wife has donated generously to many charities in UK & Sweden and also supports medical research projects at Lund University. He has been honored with a knighthood for his charitable work.
