Haim Saban is an Egyptian born Israel-American businessman, who has an estimated net worth of $3.4 billion. He has accumulated most of his wealth from his career in media and television. He serves as the Chairman of Univision, which is considered to be the 5th largest Television network in the United States. Together with a team of other equity investors, Saban bought Univision for $3.7 billion. He has a stake of $600 million in the company.
Saban was born on 15th October, 1944 in Alexandria Egypt to a Jewish family. He was a troublemaker in school, so much that he was expelled from the Youth Aliya boarding school. Saban’s career officially began in 1966, when he became a bass player and manager with a rock band known by the name “The Lions of Judah”. After a series of tours in Europe, the band returned to Israel and Saban decided to focus on being a music promoter.
Saban later on went to the United States, where his television career started. He eventually became a television producer and established his own production company known as Saban Entertainment. He went from triumph in children’s TV, to tiller of the leading U.S. Spanish language TV broadcaster, Univision. His first hit was in children’s TV show Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, in early the 90’s.
In early 2013, Saban Capital bought a controlling stake in Israeli telecom firm known as Partner Communications, which is a publicly traded corporation. The Paul Frank brand and power rangers brand is owned and managed by Saban Brands. Saban sold Fox Family Channel, (a joint undertaking with News Corp.), to Disney in 2001 for $5 billion, his stake being $1.7 billion.
Saban is also an active philanthropist, who has contributed heftily to various charitable organizations. Together with his wife Cheryl, they have donated over $47 million to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Additionally, they donated $11 million to the Saban Free clinic, formerly referred to as Los Angeles Free Clinic. They have also donated over $15 million to the Saroka Medical Centre in Israel. Saban and Cheryl have four children, two of which are Saban’s step-children. The couple resides in Beverly Hills, California.
