George Harrison Net Worth $400 Million
George Harrison was an English musician best known around the world for his time as the lead guitarist for The Beatles. He was drawn into the rock and roll genre after hearing Elvis Presley, and he soon became obsessed with guitars.
His growing desire to pursue music as a career led his father to buy him a guitar, and his father’s friend taught him how to play. He formed a band with his brother and close friend. He later met Paul McCartney and together, they built a friendship over their love of music.
Paul McCartney also happened to be in John Lennon’s band The Quarrymen where Harrison unsuccessfully auditioned because he was considered a bit too young at that time. He, however, made an impression later and began performing with them part time as a substitute.
The Quarrymen later became The Beatles, and Harrison developed his distinct musical style through his long practice sessions with the band as well as being under the tutelage of Tony Sheridan. His character in the band was also quiet, and he assumed a professional role that later led him to be called “the quiet Beatle”. The subsequent success of the band was characterized by the Beatlemania a phenomenon, which was a frenzied reaction towards The Beatles and other elements of British rock.
Harrison soon began to focus on Eastern religion and this influence was seen in Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band where he played the sitar and tambura on one of the tracks in the album. The strained relationship between the band members would lead to their eventual breakup.
This was when Harrison decided to focus on his solo career with tours and multiple albums. The death of his former bandmate, John Lennon, affected him deeply, and he increasingly became paranoid.
George was stabbed with a knife by Michael Abram during a home invasion in 1999 and soon after that, it was reported he had undergone surgery to remove a cancerous growth. He lost the fight with cancer in 2001. At the time of his passing, he was worth $400 million.
