He is currently the 2nd richest person in Canada with an estimated net worth of $9 billion. He serves as the Executive Chairman of George Weston Limited, which is a top food processing and distribution company. The food and retail giant was founded in 1882 by Weston’s grandfather, George Weston. Besides being one of the leading bakers in the country, Galen is also a veteran supermarket retailer with controlling interests in Canada’s largest food retailer, Loblaw Companies. The 70 plus year old billionaire also controls Selfridges Group, whose department store holdings include Holt Renfrew, which is the 2nd largest luxury goods retailer in the world, Ogilvy’s, Brown Thomas in Ireland, Bijenkorf in the Netherlands and Selfridges in the U.K.
In addition to that, Weston also serves as the chairman of The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, which is a family-based private charitable trust that has made $200 million worth of donations over the past decade. Weston is married with two children namely Galen Weston Jr., and Alannah Weston.
