Online retail giant Amazon was founded by Jeffrey Preston Bezos (alias Jeff Bezos) who is currently its CEO. He set it up in 1995 as an online retail store for books, however, Amazon has grown into a household name on which people can buy and sell virtually everything under the sun.
Having said that, it might seem strange that this former Wall Street boy would leave a promising job to set up what has now become a multi-billion dollar organization. But Bezos always had a passion for computers, in fact he holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Moreover, he also has a thing for space travel; he actually set up Blue Origin, a company geared at transporting people to space. Furthermore, Jeff dreams of building space colonies with hotels and amusement parks.
Now, that’s what is called dreaming big! Dreams aside, he owns major stakes in the Washington Post (in real life of course). What’s more, besides his work at Amazon, Bezos is also famous for his philanthropy having donated $42 million to the Clock of the Long Now project which involves building a clock that will keep time for 10,000 years. Jeff is married to MacKenzie Bezos with whom he has four children.
