Eduardo Eurnekian is an Armenian-born Argentine self-made billionaire whose net worth amounts to $1.8 billion. Forbes Magazine listed him as the 2nd richest person in Argentina and the 831st richest person in the world in its 2013 issue of World Billionaires. He serves as the leader of America Corporation, which is the most diversified holding company in Argentina. He also serves as the president of Puerta Del Sol, which is the corporation that runs the group’s airport business in Uruguay.
America Corporation operates over 49 airports in Europe and Latin America and holds the dispensations of the official postal service in Argentina. The company exploits about 250,000 acres of land to produce oilseeds, cereal and wine. The multinational company also invests in numerous other projects worldwide. Eduardo Eurnekian was born on December 4, 1932 to Armenian immigrant parents. His family founded a textile company, which prospered and became a chief supplier to Puma, an international sporting clothing firm. In 1988, Eurnekian bought Cablevision S.A, a local cable TV station that was in the brink of failing. In 1994, he sold a 51 percent stake in the company to Tele-Communications Inc for about $350 million. In 1997, he sold a majority of his remaining stake to CEI Citicorp Holdings SA.
Over the years, Eurnekian has established a $1 billion media empire and is currently the majority shareholder of a consortium operating at least 76 airports worldwide. The 82 year old billionaire also owns over 2,000 square kilometers of land, as well as a number of food processing factories in Argentina. Eurnekian has never married and he doesn’t have any children.
