Dirk Rossmann is a German businessman, who has an estimated net worth of $2.8 billion. Last year, his fortune rose by $900 Million making him worth almost $3 Billion now. He is the managing director of Rossman GmbH, a drugstore chain that he founded in 1972.
Today, his company has over 1,800 branches and more than 26,000 employees in Germany. It is also the 2nd largest drugstore chain in Germany, and probably the first German drugstore chain ever seen. Rossman has a 60 per cent stake, which makes him the majority owner of the private drugstore chain.
Rossmann was born on 7th September, 1946 in a family of independent small business owners. When he attained the age of 25, he opened a small business that was the 1st drug store discount market in the country (Germany).
Ten years after his business’s inception, Rossman had already established about 100 drugstores in Northern Germany. In the 1980s, he sold a 40 per cent stake in the company to Hanover Finanz, which was later sold to A.S. Watson in 2004.
Besides his stake in his own company, Rossman also owns a 25 percent stake of Deutsche Beteiligungs AG (DBAG), a stake that’s worth about $95 million.
The 67-year old self-made billionaire is also a philanthropist, and in 1991 he founded a charitable foundation known as Deutsche Stiftung Weltbevölkerung that focused on family planning. Rossmann has two sons, who are also involved in the running of the family company.
