Diana Ernestine Earle Ross is undoubtedly a legendary American singer, actress and record producer. Born on 26th March, 1944 in Detroit, Michigan, United States of America, this artist has done some great work in quite a few genres including R&B, soul, disco, jazz, pop, dance and Adult contemporary. She was born in the as the second child of Ernestine, a teacher and Fred Ross Sr., a US Army soldier. She has been active in the music industry since 1959 up to today. She gained fame in the year 1959, when she was signed up as the leading lady of the vocal group The Supremes with Mary Wilson, Florence Ballard, Cindy Birdsong and Jean Terrell working as the supporting singers. However, being the lead singer of the group and having an amazing voice, Diana Ross got all the spotlight and the group was later renamed to Diana Ross & The Supremes.
As a child, Ross wanted to be a fashion designer and she even went to Cass Technical High School to learn design and millinery. However, her plans changed when she was introduced to Milton Jenkins, who was then the manager of a local doo-wop group, The Primes. The Supremes split in 1977 after several changes in line-ups, when others in the group felt that Ross’ stardom would eclipse theirs. However, till that time, Ross had already started her solo career. In 1972, Ross started acting in movies and worked in several films including Lady Sings the Blues, Mahogany, The Wiz, Out of Darkness and Double Platinum. Diana Ross has also won many awards.
