The De Gasperis Family is one of the most financially successful families in Canada. The family derives its fortune estimated to be $1.5 billion from a business empire that was established in the 1950s by Alfredo De Gasperis and his brothers, Antonio and Angelo. The three brothers began the first business out of a bungalow in Toronto. They named their company ConDrain Construction, and in the 1960s they had worked on numerous project installing sewer and water lines in the Niagara Region.

In the year 1972, the three brothers established Metrus Developments Inc. They also founded another company and named it Metus Properties Limited. ConDrain was chosen by Cadillac Developments Ltd to service their subdivisions. In 1983, the company name was changed to Con-Drain Company. In the next decades, the companies that were founded by the three brothers continued to grow in size.
The family-owned construction company has since become the largest firm of its kind in Canada, employing over 4,500 people. The company grosses in the range of $1 billion per year. In the year 2004, Alfredo De Gasperis partnered with his son Jim De Gasperis and acquired Vineland Estates Winery. Alfredo was married to Theresa Di Carlo, with whom he had three children namely Jim, Carla and Fred. He died on 27th March, 2013 at the age of 79.
