David Thomson (born David Kenneth Roy Thomson) is a Canadian media mogul, and the son of Kenneth Thomson (deceased), the 2nd Baron Thomson of Fleet. His siblings are Peter Thomson and renowned actress Taylor Thomson. David Thomson and his family are by far the richest family in Canada. The family has an estimated fortune amounting to $25 billion, most of which derives from the family’s media and publishing empire, Thomson Reuters, which was built several decades ago. The family has a 55% stake of the firm.

David has been serving as the Chairman of Thomson Reuters since 2008 after his family’s company, Thomson Corporation, merged with Reuters. He is also the chairman of Canada’s Globe and Mail Newspaper. David and his brother Peter sit atop Thomson family’s holding company known as Woodbridge. This holding company owns the Thomson Reuters stake, as well as shares of Strategic Hotels and Resorts, a real investment trust, and IHS, an analytics firm.
David Thomson has been married twice, and both marriages ended in divorce. His first marriage was with Mary Lou La Prairie, whom he married in 1988 and divorced in 1997. Together they have two daughters and one son. Thomson’s second marriage was with Laurie Ludwick, whom he remained married to from the year 2000 to 2005. Together they have a daughter. David currently resides in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
