Charles Koch is an American businessman and philanthropist who is CEO of Koch Industries. He and his brother David Koch are the majority owners of the company, one of the largest privately owned companies in America. The brothers inherited the company from their father and has since grown the company by more than 2600 times its original size.

Upbringing and Education
Koch was born in Wichita, Kansas. He is the second of four sons of Fred Chase Koch and Mary (née Robinson). Harry Koch (Koch's grandfather), was a Dutch immigrant who settled in West Texas and was a founding shareholder of Quanah, Acme and Pacific Railway. He also founded the Quanah Tribune-Chief newspaper.
Koch studied in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1957 he received a Bachelor of Science in general engineering, a Master of Science in mechanical engineering in 1958, and once again a Master of Science in chemical engineering in 1960.
Work and Career
After college, Koch worked at Arthur D. Little, Inc. However during 1961 he moved back to Wichita to assist his father's business, The “Rock Island Oil & Refining Company”. He became president of the medium-sized oil firm in 1967. In the same year, he renamed the firm Koch Industries.
By 2006, Koch Industries generated a $90 billion in revenue, a growth of 2000 times over.
Involvement in other Areas
Koch is also the Director of Entrust Financial Corp and Koch Industries Inc since 1982. Besides that, he is also the director of Invista and Georgia Pacific Corp.
Koch has also founded or co-founded institutes such as the “Cato Institute, the Institute for Humane Studies, the Bill of Rights Institute, the Market-Based Management Institute and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University.
Koch is a very strong standing libertarian; he funds the Charles Koch foundation that encourages students to explore the benefits of free enterprise and classical liberalism. He also stands strongly against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act aka “Obamacare”. Koch is also funding the Berkley Earth Surface temperature project to disapprove Global Warming. Through Americans for prosperity, the Koch brothers have made over 400 members of the congress sign a pledge to vote against climate change legislation.
