Charles Cadogan, 8th Earl Cadogan was born on March 24, 1937 as a son to William Gerald Charles Cadogan, the 7th Earl Cadogan. He was formerly known as Viscount Chelsea, and later assumed the title of Earl Cardogan after his father died in 1997. Charles began his career at merchant banker Schroder Wagg. He is now the head of a 300-year-old family property, which is one of London’s wealthiest and well-acclaimed real estate dynasties.
Charles took over the management of Cadogan estate in 1974. In 2012, Charles stepped down as chairman of the vast real estate trust and passed the reigns to his son, Edward, Viscount Chelsea, after he managed it for 38 solid years. Charles is a Governor of Culford School, and at one point (from 1981-1982), he chaired one of the most successful football clubs in the world, Chelsea. He was also a second lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards and in 1996, he was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London.
This is a 300 year old family estate trust that is currently managed by Charles' son, Edward, Viscount Chelsea. Cadogan Estates owns 90 acres in London’s Chelsea, which is a posh neighborhood and home to luxury retailers in the likes of Jimmy Choo and Fendi. The 90-acre estate spreads over the capital’s most enviable locations in the aristocratic neighborhoods of Knightsbridge and Chelsea.
Currently, Edward is overseeing the redevelopment of Sloane Street, which is a highly popular shopping destination that features high-end shops. Cadogan Estates acquired the permission to proceed with the project.
Charles attended St David’s college, Llandudno , and later served with RAF in the 1st Gulf War. His first marriage was with Lady Philippa who sadly died in 1984. She was the daughter of Gerald Wallop, 9th Earl of Portsmouth. Charles and Lady Philippa had one daughter (Lady Anna-Karina Cadogan born on February 4, 1964, and two sons, Edward Charles Cadogan, Viscount Chelsea (born on May 10, 1966) and Hon. William John Cadogan (born on November 9, 1973.
Five years after the death of his first wife, Charles married Jennifer Jane Greig Rae, who is currently an etiquette expert. Their marriage ended in a divorce in 1994. The same year, Charles entered into the marriage institution with Dorothy Ann Shipsey, who was a former matron at King Edward VII Hospital for Officers.
