Native to the Netherlands, Charlene de Carvalho-Heineken is the richest individual in the Netherlands. She was originally born in Amsterdam and went on to study at Rijnlands Lyceum Wassenaar. After receiving her bachelor's degree, she went on to study law at the University of Leiden. Following her education, she decided to enter the family business. Her great-grandparents had originally bought Heineken during the 1860s.

They met on a ski holiday. As a former Olympic, Michel was a frequent fixture on the slopes. After marrying, the couple moved to London and had five children together. Currently, Carvalho-Heineken still works as the executive director of Heineken while her husband serves on the supervisory board.
